TIPS FOR MAINTAINING WOODEN SKIS

SKI REPAIR

A wooden ski is a durable ski that must be maintained to ensure the best longevity over the years.

We offer a ski maintenance and repair service. When you return your skis, we remove the bindings and medals. The entire surface of the ski is carefully sanded by hand.

This removes or significantly reduces any scratches. The edges are also sanded and rounded to minimise any impact marks and roughness. Once sanded, the skis are oiled and protected to restore their original appearance. Finally, the bindings and medallions are refitted to the skis.

Ski refurbishment process

At the end of winter, drop off your skis at our premises at 6 route de Nanfray, 74960 Annecy. To do so, please make an appointment in advance by telephone on 04 58 10 15 27 or by email: bonjour@marcel-livet.fr.

Our team will be there to welcome you and take care of your skis. Maintenance will be carried out during the summer season. Your skis will be available again in September.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Drying

Always dry your skis at the end of your outing: Do not leave the skis attached, but open them up and let them dry individually to prevent rust from forming on the edges. Ideally, we recommend wiping the edges with a cloth before leaving them to dry.

Sharpening and waxing

For the maintenance and repair of edges and bases, we recommend that you have this done by competent professionals. For ideal long-term maintenance of your skis and to preserve their excellent performance on the snow, we recommend that you have your skis re-sharpened and waxed every 7 to 10 days of use. We also recommend waxing your skis at the end of the season after your last use, in order to protect and nourish the base during the long months of storage between seasons.

Wood

For wood maintenance, skis are protected by several layers of resin and varnish. If, after a fall, a significant impact or for any other reason, you notice significant damage to the ski's protective coating, we recommend that you take them to the shop where you purchased them to have the varnish repaired, or contact us directly.

For independent maintenance, we recommend that you regularly nourish the areas of wood that need protection with linseed oil, using the maintenance kit supplied with your skis.

The Shocks

For everyday handling, we recommend that you do not bang the tails of your skis hard against the ground, for example to remove snow. Despite the aluminium protection used on the tails of the skis, repeated banging can damage the mechanical performance of the skis by affecting the technical fibre fabrics.

Transport

Finally, when transporting your skis, we recommend that you carry them in a protective cover and always secure them with two Velcro straps at the top and bottom of the skis. Do not store wet skis in the cover and ideally transport your equipment dry.
